What to do in the event of a private accident?
Are you responsible for the accident, or is someone else?
In the event of a private accident, there are two options:
- or you are responsible yourself;
- or someone else is responsible for the accident.
Without a responsible third party
If there is no responsible third party, no one else is responsible for the accident.
Examples of such an accident are: falling down the stairs at home, spraining your foot during a walk.
Injury(s)? Report your accident to CM
This can be done in two ways:
- or you do that digitally;
- or provide CM with the completed ' Report of accident' form.
You can also receive the form without having reported an accident. This happens if CM suspects that you have had an accident (e.g. based on a hospital admission or a declaration of disability).
Always return the completed form to CM as quickly as possible, even if your medical costs are not the result of an accident.
Incapacitated? Indicate it
Do you become incapacitated for work after an accident? Report this in a timely and correct manner to the CM's consulting physician. The declaration period varies depending on whether you are an employee, unemployed or self-employed.
Medical costs and lost wages
CM will cover the medical costs according to the usual reimbursement rates and will pay any benefits due to disability.
With responsible third party
In the event of an accident with a responsible third party, someone else is responsible for your accident. This could, for example, be the owner of the dog that bit you or the owner of the flower pot that fell on your head.
Report the accident to the police
If necessary, report the accident to the police as soon as possible. The responsible third party must report the accident to his insurer (usually the family insurance).

Medical costs and lost wages
- Submit your medical expenses to CM and always state that they are related to the accident. CM will provisionally cover the medical costs according to the usual reimbursement rates and pay any benefits due to disability.
- Notify CM if there are likely to be no further costs associated with the accident.
- Inform CM if the other party wants to reimburse you. Provide a copy of the settlement or court decision regulating the compensation.
- Provide the insurer concerned with an overview of what you paid yourself. You can print such an overview via ' My CM'.
