Disabled and working part-time

To be recognized as and remain unfit for work, you must cease all activities.

CM - jouw gezondheidsfonds

When you have recovered sufficiently to do volunteer work or to resume work partially, you can ask the advising physician for permission. By not asking permission in advance, you may lose your benefit.

Application

The application must be made at least the last working day before you start the activity. You do not have to wait for the answer from the advising physician to start.

The application can be submitted digitally or on paper.

Attention : Mentioning a percentage of incapacity for work (for example 50%) on the certificate of incapacity for work (confidential) does not count as an application for part-time work. Always submit a separate application form, digitally or on paper.

    • Complete the application digitally via www.cm.be/deellijke-werkhervatting .
    • You will receive a copy of your application in PDF format.
    • CM will work on your question and keep you informed.
    • You can also apply for an extension of your current admission in this way.
    • Print the form 'Application to perform an activity' and fill it in. Your employer must also fill in a section and give his approval.
    • Send the completed form to the CM's consulting physician . The postmark serves as proof of timely application.
    • Never deposit the application in a CM mailbox.

The advising physician will assess your application, after which you will receive the decision. If more information is needed for the assessment, we will contact you or invite you for a conversation.

    From when?

If your application is submitted on time, you may resume work part-time or perform a job adapted to your health situation (e.g. lighter work with reduced efficiency). You do not have to wait for the decision of the advising physician.

What after the decision of the consulting physician?

    Then there are two possibilities.

      You can continue your activity.

The doctor gives permission for a maximum of two years . If you want to continue working after that, you must submit a new application no later than the last working day of the admission.

During the first year of your disability, you must continue to submit your disability certificates to CM, even if you work part-time. Read more about how to correctly extend your disability .

Depending on the situation, you will retain part or even all of your sickness or disability benefit. Read more about calculating your benefit .

When you start a part-time return to work, the payment of your benefit changes . From that moment on, we pay monthly, after we have received the pay certificate from your employer.

You must stop working immediately. For the days worked, you retain your professional income and part of your sickness or disability benefit. From the day of the negative decision, you will receive your full benefit again.

What are the consequences of a late declaration?

If the application is submitted late because you have already resumed work part-time, this will have financial consequences.

Your sickness or disability benefit will be reduced by 10 percent for the period of late payment.

Your sickness or disability benefit will be reclaimed for the period of late payment.

        Change of activity conditions

If you would like to change the conditions of the activity for which you were granted permission, such as: number of hours, other assignment, other employer, etc., you must submit a new application in advance. If you want to extend and change your permission at the same time, you must also submit a request for change. In section two, you then indicate 'change'.

The consulting physician will pronounce on this. In case of a positive assessment you will receive an adjusted admission.

A number of modified arrangements apply to employees, unemployed persons and self-employed persons.

        Self-employed

As a self-employed person, you can request permission to perform a limited activity during your incapacity for work. This can be part of your previous self-employed activity, but also within another self-employed or salaried activity.

The advising physician will grant permission for a maximum of two years . If you wish to continue working after that, you must submit a new application no later than the last working day of the admission.

The first six months there is no impact on your benefit, after that there is. Read more about the calculation of your benefit for permitted activity .

        Volunteer work or association work

Do you want to do volunteer work during your incapacity for work? Then you do not need permission from the advising physician. However, the advising physician must determine whether the volunteer work is appropriate for your state of health.

Therefore, contact the advisory physician of your health fund as soon as possible. This way, you can be sure that the work suits your health and that your file is put in order.

Do you want to do association work during a period of incapacity for work? For this you have to ask permission from the advising physician.

You must also inform the medical advisor if you do unpaid volunteer work for a person or organisation with whom you have no family ties (e.g. playground supervisor, Red Cross volunteer, cycling competition supervisor, etc.).

Notify the advising physician as soon as possible via My CM . Would you prefer paper? Then you can deliver the completed form 'Application for permission for volunteer work' to the advising physician of CM.

This activity has no impact on your benefits.

If you want to perform an activity during your incapacity for work that falls under the system of association work (art. 17 RSZ decree), this will not affect your benefits. You do need the permission of the advising physician. How to apply for permission, you can read under ' Application '.

Within what period do you submit your application?

          • Is this a new activity ? Then submit your application before you start the activity.
          • Is it an activity that you were already doing before your illness or accident ? Then you have one month after the date on which you reported your incapacity to submit your application.

For more information about which activities fall under association work and who is eligible, visit www.verenigingswerk.be .

          Cessation of activities

You must also report this to the consulting physician if you stop working part-time, doing voluntary work or joining an association.

If you stop the permitted activity, you must report this in writing to the CM advisory physician. You can do this via My CM . Do you prefer paper? Then use the form 'Stop or change permitted work'.

If you stop the permitted activity, you must report this in writing to the CM advisory physician. You can do this via My CM . Do you prefer paper? Then use the form ' Declaration of cessation of permitted work during incapacity for work ' .

If your benefit has been reduced, we will refund your full benefit.
