Contribution of financial responsibility
Every year, each health insurance fund must check whether its reserve fund contains the minimum amount required by law.
Depending on this, the health insurance funds decide whether to ask members for a contribution for financial responsibility.
For the seventeenth year in a row, as a CM member you will not have to pay a contribution for financial responsibility in 2023.
What is it?
If the health care budget is exceeded , health insurance funds must help make up the shortfall. To this end, they are legally obliged to set up a special reserve fund , which is financed, among other things, by contributions from their members, the so-called contribution for financial responsibility.
Every year, each national association must check whether its reserve fund contains the minimum amount required by law. Depending on this, it is decided whether or not a national association should ask its members an annual contribution for financial responsibility.
Important : The financial responsibility contribution should not be confused with the member contribution for the package of CM services and benefits or with the healthcare premium for Flemish social protection . Nor is it used to pay for staff and buildings. The contribution only serves to cover part of the shortage in the healthcare sector .
For who is it?
All beneficiaries over the age of 18 are obliged to pay the contribution. Only children and other dependents are exempt from this.
Anyone who does not pay the contribution does not, in principle, comply with the obligations that entitle them to further reimbursements from the health insurance.
How much is it?
The contribution depends on various factors . How big is the healthcare shortage? What amount should health insurance funds contribute to cover the deficit? What is the impact on their reserve fund?
