Fixed allowance for PVS
Because chronically ill people have high expenses, there are various fixed reimbursements that they can accumulate, including for patients in a comatose state (PVS). The PVS fixed allowance helps to cover the costs for PVS patients cared for at home.
The amount of the PVS fixed allowance is indexed annually. From January 1, 2023, the maximum amount is 9,623.36 euros. The PVS fixed allowance can be combined with the healthcare fixed allowance, the incontinence fixed allowance and the palliative care fixed allowance.
Your doctor submits a request to CM
The application to CM is made by the responsible doctor of a recognized expert hospital center.
This is possible:
- at the earliest one month before the patient returns home.
- no later than the end of the fifth month following the month of return.
CM will pay you back
Payment is made in phases:
- an initial payment for the month of return home and the five subsequent months includes half of the repayment;
- From the sixth month onwards, your health fund will pay one-twelfth of the annual reimbursement every month.
The lump sum is no longer due from the second full calendar month in which the person concerned continuously resides in a hospital, ROB, RVT or PVT.
What are the conditions?
- Being a PVS patient: having fallen into a coma after sustaining severe acute brain damage (following skull trauma, cardiac arrest, vein bleeding) and where recovery techniques could not improve the condition.
- Will be cared for at home or in a day care center.
