Cancer treatment transport

Belgian health insurance will reimburse you for transportation to and from your cancer treatment.

You will receive 0.36 euros per kilometer, regardless of the means of transport.

From 1 April 2025, the reimbursement of transport costs for cancer treatment will be done automatically based on what the hospital charges. The distance that is taken into account for this is the shortest distance between your official place of residence and the hospital.

For transport from 1 April, you no longer need to submit an application. The separate scheme for reimbursement of public transport also expires. A fixed amount per kilometre is always paid, regardless of the means of transport.

Payment under the new scheme will be made within 30 days after CM has received the necessary information from the hospital.

The following conditions applied to journeys made before 1 April:
  • Are you travelling by public transport? You will receive a full refund, provided you travel in second class.
  • For other means of transport you will receive 0.36 euros per kilometre, without any limitation on the number of kilometres.
What should you do?
  • The attending physician at the center will provide you with an application form . On this form your physician will state the dates on which the cancer therapy took place.
  • Deliver the form to CM via the CM mailbox . We always need the original document.
