Study on reducing or stopping medication in people aged 60 and over
Appropriate medication use is important. As one gets older, the risk of taking multiple medicines increases as does the risk of unwanted side effects such as falls and memory problems. Sometimes it is possible to reduce or stop taking medicines. Such decision depends on several factors including a patient's values and commitment.
To gain more insight into this, CM is participating in a study by UCLouvain. The questionnaire collects information on:
- Some basic variables such as age, gender, family situation, education level.
- Health status and contacts with doctors.
- The extent to which the dose or number of drugs has already been reduced or is currently being reduced.
- The various factors that can influence both willingness and decision to reduce or stop a medicine.
- Health literacy.
