Healthcare budget for those in serious need of care
This care budget is for people who need a lot of care at home. You are also entitled to this if you stay in a retirement home or psychiatric care home.
The healthcare budget for people in serious need of care is 140 euros per month. You can spend this on non-medical costs.
Who is entitled to the healthcare budget for those in serious need of care?
You are entitled if:
- you are a home care patient and are recognized as requiring serious care;
- you are staying in a residential care center;
- you have been admitted to a rest and care home (RVT) or psychiatric care home (PVT).
Your age doesn't matter . Even if you are younger than 26 years old and do not yet pay health insurance premiums, you are eligible for this health care budget.
There is a separate scheme for people with a disability who have a personal budget.
How do you apply for the healthcare budget?
To receive the healthcare budget for people in serious need of care, you must provide proof .
What steps do you follow once you have received the proof?
Are you admitted to a residential care center or psychiatric care home that is recognized by the Flemish government? The application will then be processed automatically by CM-Zorgkas .

Are you applying for reimbursement as a home care patient and cannot provide proof? CM-Zorgkas will then work with you to determine which service can determine your level of care need.

Important :
- Anyone who submits an application late may be recognized retroactively under certain conditions.
- Residents of Brussels who joined a care fund at a late stage must complete a legal waiting period before they can apply for this care budget.
When is the healthcare budget paid out?
CM-Zorgkas submits the payment order on the 24th of the month. Depending on your bank, the amount will be in your account after one or two working days.
- Your right to this healthcare budget starts in the fourth month after the application . For example, if you submit your application to CM-Zorgkas in January, you will be entitled to it from May at the earliest.
- Home care patients receive their care budget each month . Example: the May healthcare budget is paid out in May.
- Nursing home residents and residents of a psychiatric care home receive their care budget the following month . Example: the May healthcare budget is paid out in June.
