Non-reimbursable analgesics or painkillers
Chronic pain patients are entitled to reimbursement for paracetamol-based painkillers.
They only pay a limited personal share instead of the full amount for these analgesics (paracetamol-based painkillers).
Important :
- The introduction of reimbursement is part of the specific protection measures for the chronically ill.
- The reimbursement does not apply to hospitalized patients and to patients admitted to a psychiatric care home.
- The amount charged to the patient is counted as a personal share towards the maximum bill (MAF).
What are the conditions?
- The patient suffers from a well-defined condition :
- cancer pain;
- chronic arthritis/osteoarthritis pain;
- neurogenic or neuropathic pain of central or peripheral origin (including multiple sclerosis);
- peripheral vascular pain;
- post-surgical pain (including phantom limb pain);
- fibromyalgia.
- The pain :
- persists for at least three months after optimal curative treatment;
- persists after curative treatment of a clinical picture of malignant chronic pain.
- The analgesic is eligible for reimbursement.
What is the procedure?
- Request from the consulting physician
The treating physician or the physician who manages the global medical file submits a request based on Chapter IV § 5460000 to the CM's consulting physician. - Receipt of authorization
After approval by the advising doctor, the patient receives an authorization that is valid for life. - Awarding reimbursement
When purchasing the medicine, the pharmacist will immediately settle the reimbursement upon presentation of:- the electronic identity card (eID) or ISI+ card;
- a prescription.
